Graze and Buy 2008
Review of the day by Rachel

Don Lear, the Bhaji man, cooked Waklyns Maris Bard potatoes into spiced Bombay Potatoes - delicious and persuasive.

Exquisite face-painted tigers circulating, along with men holding bunches of roses (from Eddie Krutyza). Suffolk Apple Juice and Grain Brewery sold us amber liquid, washing down delicious Metfield Pig Herd hog roast cooked by Duke William – our hosts. Cratfield Beef and Thorpe Hall both almost sold out, Harvest Kitchen Patês did. We could have sold a flock of Clevely's Smoked Duck and sadly had to disappoint many customers.

Apart from the 35 local producers, the Metfield tasting table was particularly successful, with 8 volunteers promoting product from producers who could not come on the day (Pinny's fish, Purely Pesto, Fairfield Crisps, Aspalls Cyder, St Peter's beer, Marybelle yoghurt, Vineyard Fine Foods chutney, Waveny Mushrooms, Hillfairs oil). There was always a lot of energy around it, and the shop was buzzing with customers fresh from their inspiration to buy the product. The record takings on the day, just under £1,000, were a testament to their success. We are very grateful to these producers for providing us a generous quality of product for sampling, in particular Metfield Bakery (now in Dereham) who gave us two full Tuscan Orange cakes along with diverse artisan bread.

The raffle raised £170 – with prizes contributed by local producers – and, together with the generously donated produce from Metfield's Allotments (and fresh basil from Peter and Sue's polytunnel), will go towards matched funding for our long wanted OPEN CHILLER which will help us display and keep chilled goods more efficiently in summer.

Margot Harbour from Harleston Information Plus – our new landlords – was most persuasive in helping to sell raffle tickets at the gate.

Many thanks to all of you who provided, helped, promoted, and simply came and enjoyed the Graze and Buy this year.
